“You are What You Eat”

I believe that statement 100%.

We truly are the product of what we eat.

We’ve heard that for years, usually talking about our overall health. But what we eat also impacts our appearance, mood, attitude, and happiness. Food affects us in so many different ways – not surprising, considering food is the fuel of life.

Several years ago, I lived on mac n’ cheese and chocolate chip cookies. I have since learned how much that mac and cheese was affecting my energy, attitude, and, frankly, my overall happiness and mood. Luckily for me I have evolved over the years and now eat good, whole foods. For me, learning how food affects me made all the difference in changing my lifestyle.

Our Emotions. Research shows that eating breakfast results in improved mood throughout the day. Breakfast should be on our 'never leave home without' list. Truly, it is the most important meal of the day. Sadly is often overlooked because we are too busy. If we understood how it affects our moods and emotions, we would make it a higher priority.

Our Energy. By eating frequent, small meals throughout the day, we will have a constant supply of fuel for our bodies. This fuel will be converted to usable energy. It is like fuel for your car. Your car will not go very far on an empty tank and neither will you.

Our Attitude. Let’s face it, when we are eating right we just look and feel better. I know that when I look and feel better, my attitude is upbeat too. I feel more confident and more excited to be out among people and socializing. I am excited to get ready in the morning and wear cute clothes, instead of sweats.

Comments

Identifying emotional eating triggers and bad eating habits is the first step; however, this alone is not sufficient to alter eating behavior. Usually, by the time you have identified a pattern, eating in response to emotions or certain situations has become a habit. Now you have to break that habit.
